What am I ready to claim?

This month’s reflection is a bit briefer because, wow, what a chaotic month September has been (already!). For me, this has included the last leg of my move and the start of school for my kiddo. Both events have me thinking about what we can choose to leave behind, and what we can step into, during transitions like these. In that spirit, my inquiry question for this month is:
What am I ready to claim?
The tarot card I pulled to spark some reflection around this was The Fool: freedom, energy, beginnings, wandering, liberation. What a gorgeous challenge! While I don’t have the time to reflect on it in writing here, it’s giving me a lot to think about this month — and beyond.
On a different note… I’ve been feeling a little uneasy about these monthly reflections. My inner critic has been questioning whether tarot is an “appropriate” tool for a “professional” consultant’s/coach’s newsletter. Yet over the last several decades tarot has evolved from a fun interest to a core tool in my reflective practice (as well as a way to feel connected to my late grandmother/maternal ancestry). It would feel inauthentic for me to not weave it into these reflections.
I decided to offer inquiry questions in my newsletters because I believe regular reflection is powerful. It’s part of effective learning. It’s one of the practices that nurtures and propels praxis. And this article even argues it’s the foundation needed to grow empathy, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and compassion.
As I hope is obvious, tarot is a tool I’m drawing on but not the point of these monthly reflections. The point is to carve out space — and to invite you to carve out space — to wonder about something. How we find our ways into that wondering will be different for each of us, and I support whatever works for you. I hope you’re finding the process valuable.
